Luisangel José Acuña, born on March 12, 2002, to Venezuelan parents (Ronald Acuna Sr, his Dad), is a professional baseball infielder currently with the New York Mets organization.

Originally from La Sabana, Venezuela, Acuña initially had an agreement to sign with the Atlanta Braves in 2017. However, following a scandal involving the Braves’ international signings, the team lost the capability to offer his signing bonus, and he re-entered the open market. On July 2, 2018, Acuña signed with the Texas Rangers, obtaining a signing bonus of $425,000.

Furthermore, Acuña commenced his professional career with the DSL Rangers in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League in 2019. Starting the 2022 season with the Hickory Crawdads in the High-A South Atlantic League, Acuña hit .317/.417/.483/.900 with eight home runs, 29 RBIs, and 28 stolen bases over 54 games.

He was then promoted to the Frisco RoughRiders in the Double-A Texas League, ending the season with a .224/.302/.349/.651 line, three home runs, 18 RBIs, and 13 stolen bases. Post-season, he played for the Surprise Saguaros in the Arizona Fall League and secured a position on the Fall League All-Star team.

On November 15, 2022, the Rangers added Acuña to their 40-man roster, safeguarding him from the Rule 5 draft. He was then optioned back to Frisco for the start of the 2023 season. On July 30, 2023, he was exchanged with the New York Mets in a transaction that included Max Scherzer and cash considerations.
